Privacy Policy
betterbid has no accounts and no login, so there's very little of yours to hold. This page explains exactly what is collected, why, and who sees it.
What we collect
- No accounts, no profiles. There's no sign-up, so we never collect a name, password, or account email for using the site.
- Hashed visitor identifier. To count unique visitors and de-duplicate clicks, we combine your IP address and browser user-agent and run them through a one-way hash (HMAC-SHA256 with a private salt). The original IP address is never stored — only the hash.
- Page views and clicks. We record which pages are viewed and which listing links are clicked, tied to the hashed visitor identifier above, so we can show public totals like "online visitors" and click counts on each listing.
- Payment information. Checkout is handled entirely by Creem.io, our payment processor and merchant of record. We don't see or store your card details. Creem.io shares with us only what's needed to confirm a payment and attribute it to a listing (amount, currency, and a payment reference).
- Listing content. If you submit a URL or X handle, we fetch and store its title, description, and favicon or avatar so it can be displayed on the board. This is public data about the thing you listed, not about you.
What we don't do
- No cookies. betterbid doesn't set tracking cookies or use browser local storage to identify you.
- No advertising trackers, pixels, or third-party ad networks.
- No selling or sharing of visitor data. Aggregate numbers (visitor counts, click counts) are shown publicly; the underlying hashed identifiers are not.
- No cross-site tracking. The hashed identifier is specific to betterbid and isn't shared with or matched against other sites.
Who processes data on our behalf
- Creem.io — payment processing and merchant of record. See its privacy policy for how payment data is handled.
- PostHog — server-side analytics (page views, click events), keyed to the hashed visitor identifier described above, not to raw IP addresses.
Bots and automated traffic
Requests identified as bots or crawlers (by user-agent) are excluded from analytics entirely — they aren't hashed, counted, or stored.
Data retention
Page view and click records are kept for as long as needed to power the public counters shown on the board and listing pages. Listing content (title, description, favicon) is kept for as long as the listing exists on the board.
